Smeatharpe Stadium - Sunday 25th March 2012

(Report by John Wyatt)

A warm and sunny spring day greeted the many racegoers to Smeatharpe stadium and the racing was pretty hot stuff too with a four-formula programme promising something for everyone. Before the racing got underway there was an award to be presented in the shape of the Plymouth Stock Car Supporters Club Trophy - which this year went to worthy winner young F2 pilot 797 Dan Moss, handed over by the ever-youthful himself ex double F2 World Champion Colin Higman.

BriSCA F2 Stock Cars

A good showing of 39 Brisca F2 Stock Cars graced the Smeatharpe pit area, which included 886 Chris Bradbury who had raced on the shale at Mildenhall the previous evening picking up a win in the consolation.

Heat 1 had white graders 602 James Horwell on the inside of the front row and 550 Andy Sobey on the outside ahead of a 19 car line-up that included 676 Neil Hooper in his 'older' car - in preference to his smart new 'Motorworld' 2012 machine. After an initial false start, which saw 464 Matt Linfield retire to the infield with a throttle cable problem, the the race eventually got underway with 550 Sobey the early leader. 676 Hooper made an excellent start from the reds, which is more than could be said for 756 Richard Thomas who was finding the Smeatharpe track particularly difficult. Lap 3 and 602 Horwell slips up the inside of 550 Sobey on turn 3 to take the lead, with 31 Simon Bassett and 835 Matt Westaway following him through, next lap and 835 passes both 602 Horwell and 31 Bassett on turn 2 to take the lead, while further back 676 Hooper is carving his way through the field with comparative ease. Next on the scene to join the leading trio is 395 Jason Phillips who soon passes 31 Bassett to take up 3rd, 783 James Rygor then arrives and he passes 31 Bassett and takes off after 395 Phillips, with 676 Hooper now up into 6th, as 602 Horwell retires. At half distance it is still 835 Westaway, now from 395 Phillips and 783 Rygor with 676 Hooper now 4th and 31 hanging on in 5th. 783 Rygor then moves up into 2nd but 835 Westaway is looking comfortable out front, 676 Hooper slips into 3rd, with 522 Chris Mikulla now shadowing him in 4th at the expense of 395 Phillips. With 2 laps left to run, Hooper slips down the inside of Rygor at turn 1 to move into 2nd but 835 Westaway is far enough clear and takes the win, with 783 Rygor 3rd and 522 Mikulla 4th from 395 Phillips. For some reason, best known to themselves, the majority of the field slowed down, and indeed some actually stopped, after the chequered flag came down but BEFORE the starter waved the red flag - much to the annoyance of the steward - which meant some of the lower placed drivers missed out on their finishing positions.

Heat 2 saw 544 James Rogers on the inside of the front row with the veteran 87 Paul Weeks on the outside in front of another 19 car field, which included 886 Chris Bradbury who had been having all kinds of problems before the meeting with brake issues. 544 Rogers was the early leader from 785 Liam Deeble, with 886 Bradbury unusually making slow progress from the back of the grid with an obvious problem. 785 Deeble then moved to the front but 544 Rogers re-took the place as 797 Dan Moss moved up to 3rd with 302 Dale Moon 4th, next lap and 302 Mooner passes 797 Moss through turn 2 to take up 3rd behind 785 Deeble but he soon passes the Liskeard man and chases off after leader 544 Rogers, who he catches and passes on the following lap. At half distance it is 302 Moon from 544 Rogers, with the blue grade pair of 990 Paul Rice and 605 Liam Rowe now up into 3rd and 4th, both looking threatening. With 3 laps to run 544 has a moment and 990 Rice is up into 2nd, with 605 Rowe 3rd but on the last lap the boy from Redruth slips up the inside of 990 Rice to move up into 2nd on turn 2 but the Ideford man makes a fight of it and almost re-takes the position on the last corner but 605 Rowe just manages to hang on to finish 2nd behind the flying 302 Moon, with 254 Richard Beere coming home in 4th, and 886 Bradbury having an engine mis-fire to add to his braking problems failing to make the top 10. Two wins in two meetings then for the 'ladies favourite' Mr Moon.

The consolation had 16 starters initially and saw 602 Horwell starting on the inside of the front row with the ever improving 785 Deeble on the outside, included in the entry were 886 Bradbury and 464 Matt Linfield who both had problems in their earlier heats. After another false start, which saw the unfortunate 602 Horwell retire to the infield, it was 785 Deeble that hit the front at the green, with 430 Simon Edwards up into 2nd and getting shown the black cross. Lap 3 and the superbly turned out car of 120 Luke Loveland has a big moment with 868 Ralph Tracey on turn 3, the Tamworth man going right across the bonnet of the 868 car as the two hit the wall at the exit of turn 4. 785 Deeble continues to lead as 734 Glenn Sanders spins coming out of turn 4 but manages to rejoin, 916 Luke Thomas and 430 Edwards are having a right battle for 2nd, with 700 Adam Rubery then moving up to 4th. At half-distance it is still 785 from 430 and 916 Thomas then 700 Rubery with 464 Linfield now up to 5th. A lap later and the yellow flags come out for the 120 Loveland car, stranded on the inside of turn 4, and the remaining cars line up for the re-start, led by 785 Deeble from 430 Edwards - with the field now closed up the big winner is 886 Bradbury in 7th, as he was still off the pace at the time of the stoppage.  Shortly after the green, 430 Edwards spins on turn 4 and 916 Thomas passes 785 Deeble to take up the lead with 700 Rubery looking handy now in 2nd and 785 Deeble down to 3rd. Next lap and 464 Linfield passes the unfortunate Deeble into 3rd, the earlier stoppage not doing the Liskeard driver any favours at all, the same cannot be said for 886 Bradbury now up to 5th, but as the race progresses he is passed by both 189 Paul Butcher and 290 Jay Tomkins. With the laps fading fast, 700 Rubery is putting a lot of pressure on 916 Thomas at the front and with a little over one lap to go tears down the inside on the main straight to take the lead which he holds to the chequered flag. 916 Thomas finishing in an excellent 2nd with 464 Matt Linfield an equally deserving 3rd after his earlier problems - and 785 Liam Deeble a creditable 4th.

On to the 'Tricky Cider' sponsored final which saw 550 Andy Sobey on the inside of the front row and 544 James Rogers the outside ahead of a fully subscribed 30 car field. The commentator, Steve Linfield, said beforehand that it was 'going to be spectacular' - and spectacular it was. 550 Sobey was the early leader from 544 Rogers and 785 Deeble but having no luck at all was 797 Dan Moss who encountered all kinds of problems on turn 2, clouting the fence and then collecting or connecting with, among others 105 Ross Rowe and 189 Paul Butcher, also involved were leader 550 Sobey and 676 Neil Hooper, so plenty of action at the start of this one and the obvious waved yellows followed by the reds signalled a complete re-start. As the damaged cars were removed it did look like Hooper might be able to continue but his front bumper was fouling one of the front tyres and so that was that for the Exmouth star. 550 Sobey and 544 Rogers led away the remaining 26 runners for the re-start with Rogers getting his nose in front this time around as 315 Justin Fisher spins on turn 4, further back and 886 Bradbury had obviously got his various earlier problems sorted as he was on an absolute flyer, up among the front of the blue grade by the start of lap 3. 544 Rogers continued at the front but a problem for 522 Chris Mikulla bought out the yellow flags once more but not before 602 James Horwell had clobbered 550 Sobey hard in the side on the start/finish straight, causing some distress to the popular Launceston driver. As the cars lined up once more we had lost 522 Mikulla, earlier heat winner 835 Matt Westaway, 783 James Rygor and 916 Luke Thomas who had been going well all day up until now. Still with 15 laps left to run, 544 James Rogers once more sat at the front of the pack, sitting in 2nd was 31 Simon Bassett, with 395 Jason Phillips 3rd and 302 Dale Moon in 4th - and 886 Bradbury already up into 8th on the grid. At the green it was 994 once again in front but 990 Paul Rice had made an excellent start and was up into 5th as 76 Chris Rowe spins on turn 4. 31 Bassett passed Rogers to head the pack, the 994 car then pulling off with a problem, meanwhile 886 Bradbury had passed all those infront of him including 302 Moon and 395 Phillips and somehow had found himself in 2nd and was already bearing down on leader 31 Bassett, 990 Rice was now up to 4th from 395 Phillips. Next lap and 886 Bradbury nips past 31 Bassett up the main straight to take the lead and 990 Rice relieves 302 Mooner of 3rd and we are at half-distance. 31 now finds he is under pressure from the 'wing-less' low-line machine of 990 Rice and before long has to give way to the blue grader who is now off in persuit of leader Bradbury. 31 Bassett loses another place, this time to 302 Moon, so as the lap boards come out the order is 886 Bradbury from 990 Rice, 302 Moon and 31 Bassett - who is now getting close attention from 395 Phillips, a little too close attention as the two drivers have a coming together on turn 3 ending up with 395 Phillips hooked onto the rear bumper of the 31 car briefly but managing to extricate himself but the damage is done and both drivers are out of the places. 605 Liam Rowe now taking over 4th spot with veteran 167 Bill Batten just behind him 5th. As the race heads towards the chequered flag 302 Moon is right on the 990 rear bumper but the young man is not quite close enough to pass and at the finish it is an excellent win for the charismatic Bradbury after a trying afternoon, from 990 Rice, 302 Moon and 605 Rowe - good to see 167 Bill Batten back in the places too.

The Grand National produced 32 cars with 544 James Rogers on the inside of the front row and 602 Horwell the outside, at the start 31 Simon Bassett had all kinds of problems on turns 3 and 4, clouting the wall but managing to continue but at the back of the field. At the front it was 544 Rogers that lead from 785 Deeble, with 395 Phillips up into 3rd - with 302 Moon and 990 Rice once again going very well. As the race went on 544 came under a lot of pressure from 785 Deeble, the Liskeard man briefly passing the 544 car but then at half-distance 395 Phillips passed both of them to take the lead, with Deeble then dropping back down to 3rd. 315 Justin Fisher spins on turn 2 as 302 Dale Moon works his way up into 2nd behind the motoring Phillips, with 785 Deeble still in 3rd but only briefly as he is soon passed by 990 Rice and 835 Matt Westaway. 676 Neil Hooper is making excellent progress through the field and is soon past 835 Westaway into 4th, and a lap later passes 990 Rice for 3rd, with three laps to go it is still 395 Phillips who leads from 302 Moon. 756 Richard Thomas and 935 Nathan Maidment then have a coming together on the exit of turn 4 but the action doesn't end there, as the leaders cross the line to begin their final lap 302 Moon is right on the rear bumper of the 395 car and as they exit turn 2 Moon looks to pass Phillips on the inside but as the two cars go up the main straight almost neck-and-neck they encounter 464 Matt Linfield on the outside and as 395 Phillips pulls over slightly to overtake the Billinghurst man he clips the side of Moon, sending the 302 car sideways across his front, bringing the pair of them to a standstill in dramatic fashion. With the leaders beached it is 676 Hooper who swoops through the carnage to pick up a last corner win, with 990 Paul Rice picking up a worthy 2nd place - and the blue grade award -  after an excellent day's performance, 522 Chris Mikulla collecting 3rd after a reasonably quiet day by his standards - though to be fair he did have more than his share of problems throughout the day. Grade awards also went to 785 Liam Deeble who performed well all day from the white grade - and a consolation yellow grade award to the 'ladies favourite' Dale Moon in 302.

2 Litre National Bangers

With the recent sad news regarding popular and well-respected banger 'professor' Iain 'The Steamer' House, a rather sombre mood came over the National Banger fraternity in the Smeatharpe pit area, nonetheless a surprisingly good turnout of  20+ cars turned up to do battle for valuable World Championship qualifying points including 162 Brett Ellacott, fresh from winning the unlimited BBA Banger Supreme Championship the night before at Mildenhall - despite being 38th on the grid ! All credit to the Exeter man who had managed to get back from Suffolk, unload the unlimited car, load the 2 litre car, and somehow still manage to find time to visit his stylist - to make sure everything was in place in the hair department.

Heat 1 saw 22 cars take to the raceway, as expected it was Mondeos all the way apart from a used Cougar from 162 Brett Ellacott and the Vauxhall Vectra of 989 'Deano'. Apart from a few spinners, including 50 Neil Rogers at the hands of 162 Ellacott, the race was surprisingly tame - although 191 'Tyrone' in one of 314 Jonesey's old car's was doing his level best to liven things up by hitting anything and everything, whether it was moving or not ! 45 Anthony Croshaw seemed to be getting a good deal of attention, not least from 'Deano' in the 989 Vectra, the rear axle of his car severely re-arranged. 50 Neil Rogers and 311 Simon Rogers had a bit of a coming together on turn 2, nothing too unusual in that you might think except they are both team mates and brothers ! 114 Nick Courtier was the man doing the laps and even he took a portion from the 191 driver, though managed to keep it all together and take the win from the very tidy car of 133 Terry Hill and 162 Ellacott in the Cougar.

Heat 2 produced a creditable 20 starters with earlier heat winner 114 Courtier joining new Supreme Champion 162 Ellacott and 239 Steven Carter at the back of the grid. Welcome starters were 191 'Tyrone' and 45 'Lips' who had both worked hard to get their well bent cars back out. The race began with a big pile-up on turn 1 involving, among others, 556 'Farm Boy' who seemed to be a target for almost everyone including 162 Ellacott, though to be fair he was also dishing it out including a hit on 187 Stu Harrop. 133 Terry Hill was the long time leader as 556 continued to get stick, this time from 45 Croshaw and 191 'Tyrone' - who attempted to bury him in the turn 4 wall. 191 then has a go at 841 Tom Perkins on turn 3, giving him one on the nose as 162 Ellacott moves up into the leading position from 133 Hill. 841 then comes under attack from 891 Darren Wade, who in turn takes a hit from the Vectra of 989 'Deano' as the chequered flag comes down on the victorious 162 Ellacott to end a lively session. Due to a clutch problem there was no parade vehicle for Mr Ellacott to take his lap of honour, so I was honoured with the task of driving the big man round in his winning Cougar for the crowds applause. On firing the machine up there was this terrible rattling noise and at first I thought it was the engine, but I need not have worried as it was only an assortment of combs and tins of hairspray that had rolled under the driver's seat.

Last race of the day was the 'Tricky Cider' sponsored final which had 719 Chris Storey starting on the inside of the front row and 133 Terry Hill on the outside ahead of another very good 20 car field. The action kicked off with 191 'Tyrone' receiving a stiff jacking from 642 Nigel Thomas on turn 4, with 284 Leon Benjafield also a spinner as 989 'Deano' steams into 123 Scott Cooper and then is clobbered in turn by 'Farm Boy' 556. 191 'Tyrone' gets spun on the exit of turn 4, ending up against the fence facing the oncoming traffic just as old adversary 841 Tom Perkins comes around the bend, the 191 man waving in the 'Dingle' driver - the 841 man doesn't have to be asked twice and duly obliges with a hard one on the nose. Next driver around turn 4 is 162 Ellacott and seeing the 841 car buried in team mate 191's front end gives the 'Dingles' man a big portion. 47 Marcus A'Lee then gets the 714 'No Show' treatment  on turn 2 as 556 'Farm Boy' gives the destroyed 841 Perkins machine something to think about on the start/finish straight. 47 A'Lee gets pushed hard into the turn 4 wall ending up stationary facing the wrong way as 74 Adam Hitchcock gets spun on turn 3 by 40. 891 Darren Wade joins in the wrecking on the exit of turn 4 and takes a hit from 162 Ellacott, as 714 'No Show' launches himself flat out into the stranded 47 A'Lee car on turn 4. 556 is still somehow managing to move, eventhough the back axle of his battered Mondeo is several inches off the ground and he takes further punishment from 162 Ellacott in the Cougar. Amid all the destruction, 133 Terry Hill had been doing the laps and crossed the line in 1st, followed home by 114 Courtier and 45 Croshaw in 3rd, the chequered flag bringing to an end an excellent performance from the National Bangers - a race that our good friend 'The Steamer' would have surely enjoyed, God bless the big man.

Stock Rods

Another excellent entry from the ever-lively Stock Rods, including welcome visitors 136 Stevie Gooch, 315 Trevor Ashworth and 264 Steve Olden. The inclusion of Gooch particularly impressive as the Drayton man had raced the previous night at Birmingham where he had blown his engine but had somehow found the time to change it and be ready for racing at Smeatharpe ! 627 Wayne Purkess made his Stock Rod debut.

Running to a two-from-three heats format heat 1 produced 15 cars and saw 196 Phil Chapman the early leader from fellow Cornish white grader 83 Adam Ignaczak but 46 Shane Hector was the real star in this one, carving his way through the field as most of the rest of the pack bunched up tightly at the back. Shortly before half distance 46 Hector had slipped down the inside of 83 Ignaczak to take up 2nd, with 83 then having 54 John Tait and 49 Kev Lock for company and a good race looked on the cards but just as the 46 car set off in persuit of the youngster in the 196 car, in an attempt to pass 83 Ignaczak 49 Lock clipped one of the inside marker tyres on turn 2, flipping the Vauxhall Nova spectacularly - bringing out the yellow flags instantly, though it did take one or two drivers a second or two to slow down which almost caused a heart-stopping moment. Full praise for 12 Kevin Hockings who parked his car infont of the stricken 49 machine to shield the driver from further punishment. 12 cars lined up for the 9 lap re-start, led away by 196 Chapman who had enjoyed a healthy lead up until the stoppage but now had 46 Hector sniffing his rear end, with 54 Tait lining up in 3rd. No surprise then that 46 Hector took the lead before the end of the 1st lap but he had to go the long way round the outside, a lap later and 54 Tait had found his way past the 196 car though he had a little easier ride by slipping through on the inside. Two laps later and the unfortunate 196 Chapman pulled off with a problem which saw 286 Rich Crowther up into 3rd, another man with problems was 3 Matt Peters who was suffering with terrible understeer, threatening to clip the fence at almost every turn. At the flag it was 46 Hector who took the win, from 54 Tait, 286 Crowther and 92 Adam Daniels.

Heat 2 fields another good 14 car line-up with 627 Wayne Purkess starting on the inside of the front row and 315 Tevor Ashworth on the outside, at the green it is 315 Ashworth who takes it up as 627 Purkess retires to the infield. 222 Mike Belcher moves up into 2nd, briefly, before spinning on the exit of turn 2 - with a little help from 192 Donnison - which also involves 12 Kevin Hockings, both rejoining at the back of the field as 192 Simon Donnison takes over 2nd place. 12 Hockings then retires to the infield as 315 Ashworth continues at the front, with 264 Steve Olden going very well indeed up into 4th behind 54 John Tait. 46 Shane Hector then has a big moment going around turn 3, in a passing move on 54 Tait, clips an inside marker tyre putting the car up on two wheels, almost in a repeat of the earlier 49 Kev Lock incident, but thankfully the car comes back down onto all four wheels but the experience causes an instant retirement for the heat 1 race winner. In all this excitement the yellow flags come out anyway and we are looking at the second re-start of the afternoon for the Stock Rods. At the re-start 315 Ashworth leads away the remaining 10 cars, from 192 Donnison and 54 Tait, with 550 Matt Phillips in 4th, as we reach half-distance 550 Phillips looks to spin 192 Donnison, who then collects 909 Justin Washer, as 92 Adam Daniels moves up into 2nd and 306 Neil Truran in the RWD Starlet takes over 3rd. 136 Steve Gooch makes a late charge and is soon on the tail of the Starlet while at the front 92 Daniels is climbing all over the back end of 315 Ashworth but the Thatcham man is holding a good tight inside line and if Daniels is to pass it is going to have to be around the outside. Eventually 92 does find a way past the 315 car to take it up, as behind the leading duo 136 Gooch is having an excellent battle with both 306 Truran and 550 Phillips, the Starlet man getting the better of visitor Gooch, even having a little nibble at 2nd place man Ashworth before the chequered flag comes down on 92 Daniels. Another excellent race then from the 'non-contact' Stock Rods !

Heat 3 saw 15 cars line up with 83 Ignaczak on the inside of the front row and 315 Ashworth on the outside, 83 was the initial leader but after a half-spin on turn 2 allowed 315 to take it over with 3 Matt Peters in 3rd. 315 Ashworth then began to pull away at the front as the field began to bunch up behind 2nd place man Ignaczak, 3rd place man Peters then clipped an inside curb that slowed him enough to allow 215 past with 264 Steve Olden up into 4th. At half-distance it was 315 way out in front, with 83 Ignaczak now getting quicker in 2nd, 215 3rd just in front of 264 Olden and then 3 Peters holding 5th. As the race progressed an excellent battle for 2nd developed, with 83 holding a tight inside line leaving both 215 and 264 swapping inside and outside lines in an attempt to pass the 83 car, eventually 264 Olden took the plunge and sped passed Ignaczak around the outside and managed to just close the door before turn 1 to take up 2nd but by this time leader 315 Ashworth was a long way up the road. 136 Steve Gooch was now up to 5th with 909 Washer 6th and as they catch up with the 215 car both decide to try and pass it together - 909 on the outside and 136 the inside - with 215 the meat in a Stock Rod sandwich. 909 came out ahead and moves up into 3rd as 136 Gooch and 83 Ignaczak almost have a moment, with 550 Matt Phillips now also joining in the fun. 730 Brendon Sealy spins coming out of turn 4 as the leaders begin their last lap and although 264 is catching him, 315 Ashworth looks comfortably ahead and indeed takes an almost flag-to-flag victory, from 264 Olden and 909 Washer, with 136 the Hoochie Goochie man 4th.

The 'BKS Body Repairs' final produced 19 runners but 46 Hector was a non-starter, retiring to the infield before the green flag. 3 Matt Peters was the early leader followed by 315 Ashworth, as 12 Kevin Hockings is a spinner on turn 2 - not for the first time - and ends up parked across the track. A right battle is developing at the front between 3 and 315, as 12 gets mobile again, 215 holds 3rd. Lap 4 and 3 Peters goes wide into turn 2 which allows 315 Ashworth up the inside to take it up but 12 Hocking's has come to a standstill at the end of the start/finish straight so in the interest of safety the yellow flags are deployed and we are looking at a re-start. 3 was deemed the leader at the stoppage so led the 16 remaining cars away, from 315 Ashworth and 215 with three-quarters of the race still left to run. At the green it was 3 that lead, with 222 now up into 4th, the number 3 car holding a tight inside line making any passing moves difficult but 2 laps later goes a little wide out of turn 4 allowing 315 Ashworth to pounce and take over the lead spot. Next lap and 315 goes a little wide and 3 Peters slips down his inside to re-take the place, 92 Adam Daniels then joins in the fun and suddenly there are three cars going down the main straight together with 92 in the middle but as the three arrive at the corner it is 315 Ashworth on the outside that is the biggest loser, now back into 3rd but still adrift on the outside which then allows 550 Matt Phillips through into 3rd as 92 Daniels takes the lead from 3 Peters with 136 Gooch now up into 5th. In all the excitement 909 Justin Washer has collided with the rear of someone/something and retires onto the infield with water pouring from the damaged front of his little Peugeot, while 550 Phillips spins on the exit of turn 2 and comes to a halt - which brings the yellow flags out once more. 92 Daniels leads the remaining 10 cars away at the re-start from 136 Gooch and 315 Ashworth with just 4 laps left to run, 222 Mike Belcher and 306 Neil Truran have a bit of a tussle for 4th and 5th places but apart from that the race finishes in the re-start order with 92 Daniel taking the win, with 306 Truran in the 'old skool' Starlet a deserved 4th. Another excellent and entertaining showing from the Stock Rods.

Ministox

No visiting drivers in the Ministox formula meant that the local youngsters could have a good squabble among themselves - numbers were swelled by two 'new-comers' to the formula in the form of 905 Jordan Butcher and 919 Jack Clegg who were making their track debuts.

Heat 1 had the super-smart car of 994 Toby Johnson starting on the inside of the front row with 946 Emily Hector on the outside ahead of a 14 car field - with the two 'track debutants' wisely electing to start at the back of the grid. 946 Hector took the lead from the green from 994 Johnson, while a little further back 910 Tom Cadby was also going very well as was soon up into 4th. Two laps later and Cadby had caught and passed 994 Johnson and was looking menacing in 2nd, with 977 Kieren Bradford following closely and up into 3rd, pushing 994 down to 4th. The leader 946 Hector was going very well at the front and did look to have it all sewn up but as the lap boards came out 910 Cadby was looking visibly closer, while a little further back 942 Steven Gilbert, 986 Sophie Fasey and 907 Ben Sillifant were having a right old ding-dong of a battle. As the leaders began their final lap it was still 946 Hector that held the advantage but as the cars came around turns 3 and 4 for the last time in went the 910 front bumper, pushing the 946 car just wide enough to allow the Cadby car through on the inside to take the win - but only by the narrowest of margins - from 946 Hector, 977 Bradford and 994 Johnson a fine 4th place.

Heat 2 fields 15 cars and sees 946 Hector starting on the inside of row 1 with 994 Johnson on the outside. At the green it is 946 who again makes the early running as earlier race winner 910 Cadby gets spun accidently by 'new boy' 919 Jack Clegg on turn 4 - which brings out the yellow flags in the interests of safety. A complete re-start is led once more by 946 Hector, as 907 Ben Sillifant gets spun on turn 2, 977 Bradford moves up into 3rd behind 994 Johnson and 916 Keiran Bodie takes 4th. 910 Cadby soon takes over 4th at the expense of 916 with 932 Sam Moore also going well, as the recovered 907 Sillifant moves up into 6th. 932 then passes 910 Cadby and 977 Bradford moves past 994 Johnson to take up 2nd behind leader 946 Hector with three laps to go. Next lap and 932 Moore passes 994 Johnson to take over 3rd and set off after 977 Bradford but the youngster from Heathfield has designs on leader Miss Hector and as the cars start the final lap is right on the 946 rear bumper and as in heat 1 the young lady from Cullompton is passed when in sight of the flag and once again has to settle for 2nd place, this time behind 977 Kieren Bradford. With 932 Sam Moore 3rd and 910 Tom Cadby a hard-earned but respectable 4th.

The 'Plymcrete' sponsored final had 994 Johnson on the inside of the front row with 946 Hector on the outside infront of the 15 starters and at the green it was 994 that took the early lead. Almost as soon as the flag dropped 935 James Flint and 907 Ben Sillifant had a coming together on turn 4 but both continued on their way while at the front 994 and 946 Hector had changed places as 925 Amy Collett pulled off with a problem. 977 Bradford moved up into 3rd with 932 Sam Moore 4th as 903 Adam Neville has a brief but heavy encounter with 935 James Flint on turn 4 and 977 Bradford makes a mistake going into turn 4, clouting the wall putting him back down the field as 907 Sillifant and 935 Flint swap yet more bumper paint. Out front it is still 946 Hector, a little way clear of 994 Johnson with 3 laps left to run, 935 Flint is again in the wars on turn 4 as 2nd place man Johnson gets spun which puts 932 Sam Moore up into 2nd with 942 Steven Gilbert making a late charge and passing 903 Neville to move into 3rd and this is how they finish. A deserved win for Miss Hector after being the bridesmaid in the earlier two heats. Another excellent and entertaining showing from the stars-of-tomorrow in the Ministox.
