United Downs Raceway - Sunday 1st November 2009

Emergency track clearance was required in the morning, to enable racing to go ahead, such was the back straight flooding caused by heavy overnight showers.  For much of the meeting, however, the rain did hold off, and racegoers were treated to another outstanding contest for the Bangers Supreme Championship.

Bangers

On the biggest day of their season, the Bangers smashed the attendance record at St Day, with a terrific showing of 62 drivers.
After 117 Ollie Starr and 382 Danny Hunt had won the Last Chance races, 30 drivers took to the grid for the Supreme Championship.  282 Steve Hunt overhauled fellow front row starter, 991 Ben Hale, and looked on course for victory, but into the second half of the race, Hunt got caught up with backmarker 60 Andy Bulled.  Hale retook the lead, but only for a brief time, until he crashed out on the exit of turn four, in a tangle with 675 Martin Nash and 382 Danny Hunt.  That left 475 Ben Sealy as the leader, but he could not hold off the spirited charge from 156 Kev Gooding, who stormed past for a comprehensive win.
After 415 Sean Gillett had taken the consolation, white grader 929 Sam Baker managed a flag to flag victory in the meeting final, ahead of Starr and 242 Ben Ellacott.
A mesmerising Allcomers race looked to be heading to Ellacott, but late on he was caught up, and 451 Mickey Reed pounced to take the last race win of the season in the Bangers.

Stock Rods

The star men failed to show much headway in the Stock Rods, as yellow graders dominated proceedings.
54 John Tait took the opening heat, and 151 Simon Vincent held on in an exciting climax to the final, to record his first Stock Rod win.
181 Lindsey Jones made it a clear sweep for the yellow tops when he won the Grand National, for his first chequered flag of the season.
The day's results saw 37 Barry Trickey clinch the Track Championship.

Reliant Robins

Even though the quartet of Essex based drivers who were booked to attend, failed to show, there were still more Reliant Robins on track at St Day than has ever previously been the case.
87 Barry Richards stole the honours, by sweeping almost unopposed to a trio of victories.
The day's Entertainer Awards went to: 998 Martin Knowles, 707 Jeremy Moss and 738 Steve Tippett.

Ministox

Another fine showing of 17 youngsters contested the three Ministox races.
A fantastic battle in heat one saw 975 Josh Davey just hold on for his first Ministox victory, despite great pressure in the closing stages from 996 Phil Chapman and 954 Hannah Sear.
Heat two went the way of 960 Dale Moon, and as he put the seal on the Points Championship, he took the final as well, ahead of 995 Ben Goddard and 917 Andrew Neville.
