United Downs Raceway - Sunday 5th July 2009

An afternoon of sunshine and showers greeted a sizeable crowd at  St Day, as the BriSCA F2 Stock Cars appeared in record numbers.  There was good supporting action from both the Bangers and the Ministox, who also appeared in their best numbers at St Day this year.

BriSCA F2 Stock Cars

The F2s excelled themselves, with a 64-car turnout - easily eclipsing the 45-car showings for the corresponding fixture in 2003 and 2004.
National Points Champion 886 Chris Bradbury produced a dominant drive to take the World Championship Qualifying Round final at United Downs Raceway, St.Day, on Sunday, just ahead of Scottish ace 7 Gordon Moodie.  Third over the line was 721 Graham Kelly, but regrettably, he failed the post-race track width test, and had to be excluded from the result, which promoted 401 Barry Goldin into third and 606 Andrew Palmer to fourth.
Earlier in the day, westcountry drivers had won all the qualifying races, with heat wins for 126 Jamie Avery, 877 Eddie Darby and 105 Ross Rowe, ahead of a consolation victory for 393 Chris Cuming.
Cuming also ended the day with the chequered flag, as he took the Grand National, which had been led for almost the whole of the race by 954 Jamie Beere.

Bangers

Just under 50 Bangers contested a full format meeting, which saw 441 Dan Sutherland, 804 Treve Wills and 242 Ben Ellacott scoop the lion's share of the spoils.  Sutherland notched a heat and final double to book an upgrade to star, and three good places for Wills also earned him the right to a red roof.  Ellacott followed up third in the final, by winning the Allcomers event.
There was a career first win in the opening heat for 604 Kev Hookway, whilst 141 Toby Tiddy racked up his first victory of the season in the consolation.

Ministox

The youngsters in the Ministox produced their best car count at St Day so far this season, including three newcomers to the grid.  Using the ex-Lee Porter/Katie Dawe car for the first time, 961 Gary Sillifant swept to two fine victories in the heats, whilst his brother, 907 Ben Sillifant, marked his debut outing with a win in the final.
