United Downs Raceway - Sunday 13th June 2010

A lively day of action in a mixture of bright sunshine and heavy drizzle, saw a good number of BriSCA F2s, a variety of race winners in the Stock Rods and a new name added to the Bangers Cornish Championship roll of honour.

BriSCA F2 Stock Cars

A good showing of 26 F2s contested their third St Day fixture of the season.  306 Neil Truran showed the best form yet of his comeback when he won heats one and three, with 835 Matt Westaway storming to the chequered in heat two for what was his first ever BriSCA F2 success.  Truran clashed spectacularly with 31 Simon Bassett in the Heron Refinishing sponsored final, which was suspended twice.  Each time the caution period ate into the big lead that 296 Jay Tomkins had built up for himself, but he stuck to his guns and saw out the remaining laps to clinch a second career feature final win.
The Grand National went the way of 116 Ashley Rundle, to leave a clean sweep for Cornish drivers during the afternoon's F2 races.

Stock Rods

642 Simon Jones bounced back to form in the Stock Rods, as he won the final in the non-contact class.  Jones had trailed in second behind 92 Adam Daniels in a fractious opening heat, but he was not to be denied in the final, winning comfortably from early leader 241 Stewart Watters and visiting star 909 Justin Washer.  Watters completed the day with victory in the Grand National.

Bangers

246 Ryan Sparks continued his excellent start to the season when he won the Cornish Championship for the Autospeed Bangers.  Sparks also won his qualifying heat and placed second in the Allcomers, to finish the day with 39 points from a possible 40.  In the Cornish title race, a lap one crash forced a re-run which was bereft of a dozen of the original starters.  331 Duncan Kennard made the early running, and was still leading when the race moved into its final third.  Sparks edged past, though, and won convincingly, from 991 Ben Hale and 194 Alistair Buchan.  Earlier on in the day, teenager 947 Luke Purdy swept impressively to a victory in his first race in the Bangers.
