Smeatharpe Stadium - Sunday 20th June 2010

In glorious sunshine, the second day of the Summer Speedweekend produced yet more terrific action.

Saloon Stock Cars

From pole position, 512 Darren Barnett scored an emphatic victory in the British Championship.  He saw off the challenge of his brother, 511 Craig Barnett (a former British title holder), and also south west driver 834 Dan Climo, who ran strongly for much of the race, to clinch his second major honour.  Craig Barnett fought back to finish second, with 360 Carl Waterfield in third for an all-East Anglian top three.  Scottish star 618 Stuart Shevill Jnr was fourth.
Two Allcomers races followed, with the first of them proving to be a very protracted affair.  The race included a rollover for 428 Lee Sampson.  305 Nigel Parker crossed the line first, but was docked two places for twice jumping restarts, 698 Danny Colliver was earmarked by the electronic lapscoring system as the driver to inherit the win, but he felt he had not won, and thus 511 Craig Barnett laid claim to the victory.  The result was suspended for a further inquiry.
There was no doubt over the concluding race of the weekend, which went to 402 Shaun Webster, after he reeled in long time leader 65 Ian Willis.

NI312 Christopher Kincaid became the first Northern Ireland driver to win the Benevolent Fund Trophy.  Kincaid got the better of a compelling battle with front row starter 497 Piers Cockerill, and stayed sufficiently clear of former Ben Fund Trophy winner 401 Barry Goldin to take the flag.  783 James Rygor completed the podium places.
The meeting began with 605 Liam Rowe winning a hugely entertaining Teen Sensations event, from NI57 Jack Boal and outgoing Teen Sensations Champion 186 George Turiccki.
The opening heat saw 276 Murray Jones gain another win, as he continues to get the hang of F2, and after the Ben Fund race, 835 Matt Westaway proved uncatchable from the front of the grid in the consolation.  Westaway and 935 Nathan Maidment set the pace in the feature final, but 7 Gordon Moodie just caught them before flag fall, to make it back to back final wins over the weekend.
Just as on Saturday evening, 886 Chris Bradbury, took the GN.

National Bangers (under 1800cc, no Mondeos)

The National Bangers were just under 30 cars for the first of the under 1800cc no Mondeos format, which brought a sprinkling of slightly unusual vehicles on track, not least the Mk4 Cortina of 369 Gary Holmes which looked incredibly dated when on the grid with more modern cars.  Newcomer 31 Sam Hill turned in a thrilling performance, to show there is life yet in an old hatchback Bluebird, and 191 Ashley Kemble was another very lively customer, producing plenty of spectacular action.  Heat one went to 242 Ben Ellacott, who placed second to his uncle, 162 Brett Ellacott in the second heat.  On his way to winning the final, Brett Ellacott pulled off a thumping follow-in of 127 Peter Wake, before taking the flag, with 382 Danny Hunt the runner-up.  Third went to 266 Ian Meaker who was as surprised as anyone at getting such a fine place!  Hunt produced an epic display in his crabbing Sunny during the King of Crash/DD, but some crafty old-school style dodging by 47 Marcus A'Lee helped him be in the right place at the right time to land the final telling blow and take the victory.
