United Downs Raceway - Sunday 8th August 2010

Despite gloomy weather earlier in the day, an afternoon of bright sunshine greeted the large crowd who enjoyed this year's Cornish Caravan Chaos event at the United Downs Raceway, St Day, where fund raising helped boost the coffers of the Handstand Appeal by more than £1000.  As a further bonus, TV star Fern Britton was on hand to help with the special Handstand Appeal raffle which took place just ahead of the Caravan Chaos race.

BriSCA F2 Stock Cars

A slightly disappointing showing of 24 F2s contested this year's Tyrone Snell Trailers sponsored fixture.  676 Neil Hooper enjoyed a fine day for himself.  He won the opening heat and then just pipped 990 Paul Rice in the feature final.  Hooper thus became the first driver in the past three years, to win more than one feature final in the same season at St Day.  Heat wins for 467 Rob Batten and 605 Liam Rowe underlined again how competitive things are in the blue grade, whilst teenager 302 Dale Moon was the pick of the white tops, as he scooped 22 points - his largest points haul yet in the senior class.

Stock Rods

The day's trio of Stock Rod races yielded a different winner each time.  In the opening race, 34 Glenn Sanders produced a fine drive to take the chequered flag.  Sanders was involved again in the final, when he baulked the run of 92 Adam Daniels, but even so, neither could get on terms with 545 Nick Lane who ran out the winner.  151 Simon Vincent was the day's third different winner, when he took the end of meeting Grand National.

Bangers

Almost 60 Bangers contested their first St Day meeting since the Cornish Championship in June, and it was 242 Ben Ellacott and 617 Tim King who proved to be the pick of the day's competitors.  Ellacott won the feature final, whilst King followed up a win in the consolation with a runner-up finish in the final and a sixth place in the Allcomers race, to earn himself an instant promotion to the star grade.  The day also saw a huge crash involving 785 Nick Craddock, a rollover for 74 Adam Hitchcock and a fractious exchange between 91 Ian Blight and 20 Nick Manning.

Caravan Chaos

An incredible showing of more than fifteen caravans were smashed into oblivion during the Cornish Caravan Chaos race at the end of the race meeting.  A track blockage in the pits bend forced a re-run of the race, during which 154 Barry Pike got to the chequered flag first and 242 Ben Ellacott earned a £50 bonus as a result of keeping his caravan in tact for the longest time.  One of the "See Me Get Wrecked" caravans, which had been used pre-meeting for publicity of the event, was left on the track, just to be smashed up, and that actually got turned over on to its roof.
