2012 British Championship - Bangers

After the success of the inaugural British Championship for Bangers, which was won by 242 Ben Ellacott at Smeatharpe last June, the 2012 event will be slightly revamped, to add even greater interest.

Sunday 20 May is the date for the British Championship, which will again be held at Smeatharpe, and which will again be sponsored by SJD Autos of Plymouth.

Drivers will have the opportunity to secure automatic progress beyond the preliminary qualifying heats on British Championship day, by way of three British Championship qualifying rounds.  These rounds will be staged:

• Sun 12 February - St Day
• Sun 4 March - Smeatharpe
• Sun 1 April - Arena Essex

These fixtures are open ONLY to fully licensed drivers - i.e. no Day Licence drivers.

At each of the three British Championship qualifying rounds, the top three drivers in the meeting final, will earn an automatic bye beyond the preliminary heats on British Championship day.  The drivers carrying a bye, will then have the opportunity to select by way of random draw, a grid position in a Semi Final.  They can then "stick or twist".  If they "stick", they keep the grid position they draw.  If they choose to gamble, and "twist", they forsake their bye into the Semi Final, and will grid for a preliminary heat.

The first three drivers to earn the chance of an automatic bye, are: 46 Dennis Richards, 246 Ryan Sparks and 28 Stephen Linly.
