This year’s £2000 Blockbuster, at St Day on Bank Holiday Sunday 30 August is set to be a celebration of the long standing popularity of the event, and to officially mark the splendid efforts over the years, of Eddie James, who was instrumental in originating Blockbuster all those years ago.  Accordingly, the wish is to steer away from the modern day car of choice to reflect the historical nature of the day.  The aim of the day is to reflect an “Old Skool” feel to proceedings; to try to recapture the spirit of Blockbuster; and to have a fun day for all concerned.

What cars are eligible to be raced?

The ORC National Bangers Technical Spec – Unlimited will apply – notably a Rear Wheel Drive, four wheel saloon, coupe, estate car or people carrier.
No SUV’s or 4 x 4 vehicles allowed.
In an ideal world, the older the car the better, but it is clearly understood that that policy would potentially be too restrictive and not entirely possible with what cars are currently available to all drivers who would be interested in taking part.
Essentially, if a car has raced at Blockbuster at Westworld, then, notwithstanding the conditions detailed below, it will most likely be an acceptable car for this year.

What cars are NOT permitted?

The car choices of modern times are those that would not contribute to the Old Skool feel of the day.  Accordingly, Supras, Lexus and Frog eyes/Ultimas will not be accepted, nor Previas.
For further clarity, Chrysler Imperials or similar based chassis cars will not be accepted.

What type of racing will there be?

We really do want the drivers who are going to be putting in a lot of time, effort and mileage to be there, to have a real chance at some racing, as well as crashing later on in the day.
Thus, the day will begin with “Old Skool” style heats, where follow-ins and attacking stationary cars will not be permitted.
The format will be flexible depending upon the number of drivers wishing to race - hence more races can be added if required.

The Blockbuster Final, any Allcomers races, and the DD will be to full contact as per National Bangers.
Our hope is that this revised format will encourage more drivers to come who want to race at the start of the meeting, and then join in with the wrecking later on.  This may also help to encourage a few more to bring rare and unusual cars.

Overbuilding of cars

In the spirit of the meeting, drivers are strongly reminded that there should be no over building of cars, and this will not be tolerated.
