Wrangaton Wheels Raceway

For the past two years, Autospeed have been involved in making extensive safety improvements, and upgrading facilities at Wrangaton Wheels Raceway, near South Brent in Devon.

The raceway, which has staged various types of independent Banger and Rod racing for eleven years, is a loose surface, grass track - a real, back-to-basics circuit where fun is the number one element in a race meeting. The main two aspects of the works carried out by Autospeed, were to install armco crash barrier as a safety fence, to enclose the track; and to tidy up the spectator bankings into areas of uniform shape, size and gradient.

In April 2009, South Hams District Council issued an Enforcement Notice calling for all Banger racing to cease on the land. Autospeed launched the necessary Appeal against this Enforcement Notice, which led to a Public Inquiry during November 2009.

The Decision of the Public Inquiry has now been published.

The Planning Inspector declared the Appeal must fail.  However, the Planning Inspector also insisted on significant changes to the wording of the Enforcement Notice. Consequently, the Decision specifically allows the opportunity for Banger racing to continue, with an armco safety fence.

There are many other fine details of the Decision, which Autospeed will discuss with their legal advisors in the near future.  Once those matters have been determined, and once there have been further discussions with South Hams District Council; and with residents who live local to the track, Autospeed will be able to plan their next course of action.

It is Autospeed's clear intention to promote race meetings, at Wrangaton Wheels Raceway, but it is too early to be specific about dates, etc.

More information will follow in due course.
