The season's final national fixture at the United Downs Raceway, St Day produced some astonishing action from all three formulas, but it was 467 Rob Batten who scooped the day's biggest prize, as he grabbed the Old Motor Cycle Club Trophy for BriSCA F2 Stock Cars.
BriSCA F2 Stock CarsThere was anything but a shortage of prizes at stake for the F2 Stock Cars in their last national meeting of the season in Cornwall. The first event for them was the grand final of the White & Yellow grade series, and 992 Ian Jefferies quickly established himself in the lead, before romping to his first ever race win, as he took the chequered flag from 116 Ashley Rundle and 14 Mike Priddle.189 Paul Butcher, won the next heat, and then 667 Tim Farrell just about the seal on the Track Championship by winning heat three.Twenty five drivers took to the grid for the Old Motor Cycle Club Trophy feature final. The superb silver cup was purchased over 50 years ago, at a cost of £100, which gives an indication to its current day value. An additional aspect of the race was the lure of a £25 bonus for the leader of each of the 20 laps of the race.737 Neil Lampshire took the opening lap, and then Priddle took over, leading the next thirteen laps, to scoop £325. With the race into its final third, 467 Rob Batten had overhauled Priddle, and looked set for victory. However, a race suspension closed up the grid. 105 Ross Rowe was in contention, but suffered a misfire, and retired when the race resumed. As Batten stormed clear, 642 Dave Luscombe eased into second, but ran out of time in his pursuit of Batten who duly became the eighth different final winner in as many F2 fixtures at St Day this year. The end of meeting Grand National went the way of 127 Matt Stoneman.BangerstoxThere was a slightly disappointing shortfall in numbers in the Bangerstox, yet still there were more than 40 drivers in action.677 Glenn Nash clinched the St Day Track Championship in sensational style, as he romped to victory in the meeting final. Nash won from 718 Adie Brown, 313 Ross Hawtin and 210 Mike Johns. The day began with a heat win for 45 Mike Reed, and not to be upstaged by his son, 451 Mickey Reed took heat two. A late charge by 153 Rachel Tavender netted her the consolation, and 183 Martin Horn rounded off the day with a convincing win in the Allcomers event.MinistoxAnother fine showing of youngsters in the Ministox saw 18 junior drivers in the pit area, including a debut outing for 911 Scott Collings. After 991 Ryan Hoskin took the first heat, 944 Ollie Wakefield swept to victory in the next heat and the final. A runner-up finish for Hoskin in the final propelled him to the top of the Track Championship chart.
