Saloon Stock Cars A fine showing of 32 drivers contested the annual Mayday Monday fixture for Saloon Stock Cars, and unsurprisingly, there was some bruising action, particularly in the West of England Championship. Heat wins went to 176 Murray Jones, 512 Darren Barnett and then Jones again in a photo finish to heat three when he just managed to hold on despite a last bend attack by World Champion 401 Steve Webster. The West of England final was punctuated by assorted stoppages, but when the race did run its course, European Champion 720 Shane Brown swept from the rear of the grid to the front, to claim the title, ahead of 305 Nigel Parker and 499 David Aldous. Stock Rods On his track debut, Scotsman 657 Anthony Lattka sped to a heat and final double, and 125 Mike Hibberd overcame some recent below par results to take the Grand National. Micro Bangers The Fast Food trio of 107 Fish, 38 Kebab and 55 Oggy, took this year's Micro Bangers Triples Championship. Assorted small cars were given one last blast at glory in the Micro Bangers, with 179 Florence winning in a Micro, 248 John Sparks taking a victory in a Nova saloon, and 908 David Brown securing the final in a Kia Pride. Sixteen drivers contested the end of day DD, as 747 Chips crowned a fine performance to see off 474 Darren Polden and 262 Buddy James. Ministox There was a heat and final double for visiting racer 124 Oliver Skeels, after he had been beaten to the flag in the opening race, by a spirited last bend challenge from 923 Lee Porter.
