Torrential rain made for one of the wettest ever meetings at Smeatharpe, through which the BriSCA F2 Stock Cars, Saloon Stock Cars and Stock Rods battled hard to overcome truly awful conditions.
Saloon Stock CarsOver 40 Saloon Stock Cars contested five qualifying heats for their National Championship.402 Shaun Webster, 18 Jamie Clayton, 490 Ian Jarman, 499 David Aldous and 618 Stuart Shevill Jnr each scored a win, with Clayton top scoring for the night to earn himself pole position for the title race the next day.BriSCA F2 Stock CarsA fine showing of 59 F2s contested day one of their Speedweekend.Reigning Novice of the Year Champion 186 George Turiccki won the highly prized Young Guns event for teenage racers.The SW Security final saw further success for a young driver, as 78 Henry King grabbed the first feature race win of his career, on the occasion of his first Smeatharpe F2 appearance.Stock RodsThe Stock Rods appeared in their best numbers for the 2008 season, with 21 cars on the grid. 306 Neil Truran marked his return to the Stock Rods with a victory in the first heat, but he could not reel in 916 Luke Thomas by the time the chequered dropped in the final.858 Nick Taylor took the Grand National, whilst Truran crashed into a marker tyre on the final bend, robbing himself of second place.Results - see also
