The penultimate meeting of the official season at the United Downs Raceway, saw 167 Bill Batten in terrific form, as he became the seventh different final winner in as many meetings for F2 Stock Cars at St Day this eason.
BriSCA F2 Stock CarsVeteran star 167 Bill Batten notched his first feature final win of the year with a convincing victory.Batten was in imperious form, as he romped to a brace of heat wins.812 Scott Williams was the day's other heat winner. The Rundle's Metals sponsored final only went a couple of laps, before a huge pit bend pile-up ensued, after 877 Eddie Darby suffered a puncture, and spun in front of the chasing pack. The grid was lined up once more, and it was 992 Ian Jefferies who made the early running. Jefferies led the first four laps, until 229 Jon Kind swept by. Kind was showing his best form of the season, with some fast laps, but Batten was charging through the pack, and he was visibly closing on Kind. Just as Batten took the lead, further problems befell Kind, as a plug lead fell off his car, and it dropped down on to three cylinders, forcing his retirement.Batten charged on to victory, from rising young star 990 Paul Rice, and 676 Neil Hooper. When the cars reappeared for the end of day Grand National, Kind quickly put behind him, the disappointment of his mechanical troubles, by sweeping to his first victory of the season.Bangers (under 1800cc)479 Jamie Jenkin triumphed in the Cornish Championship for Bangers, and duly guaranteed himself direct entry into the final of Boneshayker at St Day, next Easter.Jenkin pounced early on in the race to spin aside the defending Cornish Champion - 406 Chris Bridger. From that point on, there was little doubt that Jenkin would secure the Cornish crown for the first time, and he won from 51 Dan Crosbie and 147 Phil Purdy. It was a successful return from injury for Purdy, who won the two Allcomers races which followed. Such was the attrition rate in the second Allcomers race, that only three drivers went the distance, with Purdy leading home 141 Toby Tiddy and 07 Jerry Harvey. There was a first ever Destruction Derby success for 145 Lee Morgan to round off the day.Stock Rods311 ‘Nippy' Neil Martin made a surprise return to the Stock Rods. Racing for the first time in five years, Martin scored a flag to flag victory in the opening race.In the final, however, Martin was reeled in by 40 Rick Cornell, and 30 Rob Peters completed the top three. After a relatively poor showing in the heats and the final, 306 Neil Truran found some form for the end of meeting Grand National race, to take his second race win of the season.MinistoxA good showing of 17 youngsters contested the trio of races for the Ministox. There was a heat and final double for 930 Jordan Lobb, after the opening race had been won by 985 Amy Deeble. Results - see also BriSCA F2 Stock Cars H1 167, 229, 877, 530, 676, 315, 667, 254, 990, 189 H2 167, 877, 497, 393, 812, 105, 667, 832, 14, 530 H3 812, 105, 393, 229, 254, 628, 990, 14, 992, 95 F 167, 990, 676, 497, 667, 628, 393, 14, 812, 315 GN 229, 105, 393, 812, 667, 497, 628, 315, 877, 254 Best In Grade W 992 Y 229 B 877 Stock Rods H 311, 27, 37, 30, 40, 125, 578, 221, 49, 181 F 40, 311, 30, 27, 306, 37, 578, 221, 193, 34 GN 306, 27, 125, 311, 30, 49, 221, 37, 578, 193 Ministox H1 985, 995, 971, 903, 930, 975, 938, nof H2 930, 923, 991, 971, 925, 985, 981, nof F 930, 923, 925, 971, 995, 985, 981, 979, 999, nof Bangers (under 1800cc) Cornish 479, 51, 147, 406, 383, 804, nof A1 147, 479, 66, 804, 406, 145, nof A2 147, 141, 07, nof KoC/DD 145 Best Presented 147, 880, 452
