Smeatharpe Stadium, Taunton - 17th June 2007

Although it was not actually blazing sunshine, the weather held good over Smeatharpe, for the lone June fixture, which produced an afternoon of some first rate action, and many racegoers left in awe at the events of a spellbinding BriSCA F2 Grand National. History was also made by 199 Phil Powell, who raced the first Mondeo body-shelled Saloon Stock Car. The car is under review from the Saloon Stock Car Association.

Saloon Stock Cars
Having waited all season long, European and National Champion 720 Shane Brown finally recorded his first Saloon Stock Car victory at Smeatharpe for this year, when he took the Devon Championship. The 21-car entry was another fine showing as the formula builds up towards the World Final on 18/19 August.

BriSCA F2 Stock Cars
The star of the day in the BriSCA F2 Stock Cars was 393 Chris Cuming, who romped to a heat and final double, and then fell just one place short in the Grand National, from posting a 50-point maximum. 990 Paul Rice also had a good day as he won the other heat, was third in the GN, and scooped the £50 bonus as first White Grade finisher in the Dave Wilson Memorial Trophy final, in which 315 Justin Fisher was the runner-up. It was Fisher who took the chequered in the Grand National - a race which boasted 31 starters, and which epitomised the phrase "action-packed" such was the supreme entertainment.

Nissan Sunny Bangers
Even though the total entry fell below that recorded last year, One Sunny Day for the Bangers once again served up some noteworthy action. There were heat wins for 336 Shannon Darke and 5 Mark Kelly, before 517 Scott Weldon led home 311 Danny Smithson and 830 Christian Finch, with Finch also triumphant in a dead-heat DD with 341 Andrew Jones.
