Sunday 22nd June 2008

Smeatharpe Stadium - Sunday 22nd June 2008
On the occasion of One Sunny Day for the Bangers, the weather was favourable at Smeatharpe, to leave the circuit basked in sunshine for most of the afternoon, and racegoers were treated to some exciting action during the course of a busy day.

BriSCA F2 Stock Cars
Despite one or two absentees amongst the regular group of drivrs, there were some more occasional racers on the grid, as the F2s produced a far better show than their previous two slightly mediocre dates at Smeatharpe.
Star men 676 Neil Hooper and 642 Dave Luscombe each stormed to late race victories in the heats.
395 Jason Phillips marked his first appearance of the season with a fine win in the consolation.
In the Roy Goodman Perpetual Challenge Trophy final, 393 Chris Cuming scored his first feature race win of the season, keeping clear from the clutches of chasing red tops Luscombe and 667 Tim Farrell.  The win netted Cuming a return to his more rightful star grade.
After some impressive front running all afternoon, 838 Matt Jefferey managed to lead all the way to the chequered in the GN, to secure his maiden race win.

Bangers (One Sunny Day)
The third annual staging of One Sunny Day for the Bangers saw an impressive showing of 35 Nissan Sunnys in action, with the Mk1 Estate of 197 Peter Dodge being the clear winner of the Oldest/Rarest award.
190 Steve Bailey and 382 Danny Hunt scored heat wins, ahead of victory in the main event for 710 Ben Wilkins on his track debut.
There were almost 20 Sunnys back on track for the DD, and after a bruising contest, 714 Paul Smaldon took the honours.

Stock Rods
Heat winners 37 Barry Trickey and 125 Mike Hibberd tied on points for the right to pole position in the West of England Championship.  Trickey won the flip of the coin, but immediately lost any advantage when Hibberd blasted into a first bend lead from the standing start.
Hibberd went on to retain the title comfortably, Trickey was second, and 565 Andy Giles drove a determined race to secure third by the finish.
The 18-car showing of Stock Rods was a marked improvement in terms of numbers for recent events.

Ministox
There was a continuation of good form for 923 Lee Porter in the Ministox, as he swept to another two race wins, including victory in the Reg Thomas Memorial Trophy Shield final.
960 Dale Moon took the other race, for his first victory of the season.
