Sunday 6th July 2008 (United Downs Raceway)

United Downs Raceway - Sunday 6th July 2008
It was anything but summer weather for the annual World Championship qualifying round for BriSCA F2 Stock Cars, as heavy rain fell for most of Sunday afternoon at the United Downs Raceway, St Day.  Nonetheless, the season's best car count for F2s in Cornwall, saw 36 drivers in action, and they served up some magnificent racing.

BriSCA F2 Stock Cars
Thirty six drivers contested this year's World qualifier, yet, despite the widespread locations of the drivers who did compete, it was one of the Cornish contingent, 707 Jeremy Moss, who took top honours.
In the pouring raing of the first heat, Moss cruised to victory.
Heat two went the way of 401 Barry Goldin.
An exciting consolation race, brought 522 Chris Mikulla the chequered flag.
After 246 Scott Horsham had led the final initially, 830 Andrew Bennett took over.  Just after half race distance, however, Moss relieved Bennett of the lead.
The tension increased when the race was suspended, with just four laps remaining, after Nationals Champion 886 Chris Bradbury and 935 Nathan Maidment, had tangled on the back straight.
Moss kept his nerve as the race restarted, and proceeded to see out the remaining fifth of the race to clinch a first ever feature final victory.

Bangers (under 1800cc)
There was plenty of rough, tough and lively racing from the Bangers, as they too chased the World Championship points which were at stake.
In the opening race, 47 Marcus A'Lee rolled over in the pits bend, but emerged unscathed.  Then newly crowned English Champion 341 Andrew Jones pulled off a huge follow-in crash, which plastered 88 Tim Wood all over the pits bend fence.  991 Ben Hale won the restarted race.
190 Steve Bailey took the other heat, and the final, to further cement his postion at the top of the World points chart.
A tremendous effort by 66 Dave Spooner saw him race at St Day, after having been at Ipswich the night before.

BriSCA Heritage
The Heritage Stock Cars added a touch of nostalgia to the meeting.
616 Darren Clark of Castle Cary was a double race winner, whilst 773 Nick Whitney also won a race in a car believed to be one of the oldest original Stock Cars still racing today.

Ministox
The youngsters in the Ministox began their day with a Fancy Dress Parade at the start of the programme.
Thereafter, 960 Dale Moon showed a great return to form, as he won twice, after placing third in the opening heat, which brought a maiden victory for 995 Ben Goddard.
909 Daniel Moss scored a trio of runner-up placings, and 991 Ryan Hoskin featured in the top five in each of his three races.
