Smeatharpe Stadium - between Honiton and Taunton EX14 9RF

Sunday 30 December 13:00

The Christmas Holiday period event at Smeatharpe Stadium will feature Banger Bonanza 6 - a day full of action from a trio of Banger classes.  Throughout 2018, racegoers have been royally entertained by the big hits from the small cars in the National Micro Bangers, and they are set to return once more in typically good numbers.  The 2 Litre Old Skool Bangers will conclude their Supreme Championship, and the chase for the purple and gold chequered roof.  Completing the line-up will be Back To Basics Bangers, set to appear at Smeatharpe for the first time since Easter; with plenty of weird and wonderful cars due to set tyres on track.

National Micro Bangers

Banger Bonanza 6
Best Presented Awards
Top Trier Award
Top Entertainer Award
Most Wrecked Car Award
Amongst the early entries for this year's Banger Bonanza for the National Micro Bangers are a number of drivers who have made such a strong impression during the 2018 season.
Cornish star 451 Nigel Belfield scored one of the biggest wins of his career when he won the National Series final at Smeatharpe in late September, having already been a member of the winning Rebels A team at the Micro Bangers Team Challenge in mid-May.  Other members of the Rebels A team who are set to compete at Banger Bonanza 6 include 133 Terry Hill, 74 Adam Hitchcock and 45 Anthony Croshaw.
At the National Series final, 160 Jamie Warr cemented his status as one of the real crowd favourites, as he produced yet another stellar performance.
313 Bev Bailey has been a fine addition to the National Micro Bangers ranks, since making a notable first appearance at Banger Bonanza 5 last December.
In a similar vein, 964 George Swift has quickly established himself as a newcomer to watch, with spirited performances at St Day on August Bank Holiday Sunday and at Smeatharpe on 29 September.
205 Matt Cottle has barely missed a meeting for the National Micro Bangers, and is again set to be present.
There is a rare outing planned by another Cornish driver, 189 Ry Beardwell.
Another of the star performers from the night of the National Series final, 666 Roberto Jay, is aiming to make a return visit, and he will be joined by 999 Dan Cliffe and two track debutants - 888 Andrew Huggins and 777 Paul Cliffe.

Having top scored during the 2 Litre Old Skool meetings during the season, 133 Terry Hill and 907 Cameron Bradford have earned the right to start on the front row of the grid.
The second row will feature 912 Simon Rees and 836 Adam Oldham, who is the only driver to have attended each of the 2 Litre Old Skool fixtures in 2018.
Two pairs of brothers are due in action, 27 Dean Quinn and 242 John Quinn from Bristol who will each be racing at Smeatharpe for the first time this season, and 297 Chris Hommell and 397 Ben Hommell from north Devon.

Back 2 Basics Bangers (overs)

Sponsored by Newnham Car Spares
Banger Bonanza 5 last December was won by 591 Aaron Morris in a VW Beetle, which underlined the expected variety of cars.
Having scored a hat-trick of wins when the Back 2 Basics Bangers (overs) were at St Day in July, it was little surprise to note 17 Tim King feature amongst the early bookings.

Raceday Programme

In the Raceday Programme, the Five Years Ago section will rewind to 29 December 2019, which was the inaugural Banger Bonanza event.  Can you recall the unusual car which 303 Nic Saintey raced in the Old Skool Unlimited cc Bangers?
