Derek Brooking RIP

Autospeed were saddened to learn of the passing of Derek Brooking, one of the mainstays of the Auto Rod/Saloon Stox formula.

It was not long after the introduction of the Auto Rod class in 1976 that Derek, from the South Hams, soon established himself in the class.  Derek swiftly rose to the star grade, and became one of the men to beat in the formula.

In August 1980, Derek won the British Championship at Newton Abbot.

Success continued through the decade, with Derek racing in trademark red and white colours - determined, skilful and a leading contender for honours.

Much more recently, Derek was reconnected with the short oval racing scene when his grandson, Troy Hemmins, enjoyed a successful time in Ministox, winning both the Cornish and Devon Championships in 2022.

Our thoughts are with Derek's family and friends.
