Smeatharpe Stadium - Monday 5th July 2010

The lone midweek fixture of the season featured a World Championship qualifying round for BriSCA F2 Stock Cars, which was full of incident, and a fun-filled display from the National Bangers on Vintage Tin Night.

A 43-car showing of F2s produced some of the best action of the season at Smeatharpe, with a series of explosive races.  Heat wins went to 7 Gordon Moodie and 886 Chris Bradbury.  A protracted consolation race saw 877 Eddie Darby handed the win, after first over the line 24 Jon Palmer was docked two places for an alleged jump start.  Palmer was one of three drivers penalised.  In the A1 Windows & Doors sponsored final, 286 Todd Jones stormed to the first F2 final win of his career, and when 676 Neil Hooper lost a plug lead late on, Moodie was able to pounce and steal second from the local star.  A thrilling GN, included a rollover for 126 Jamie Avery.  Moodie scored his second win of the night, and World Champion 968 Micky Brennan was disqualified from the result for having left the seat of his car during one of the many race suspension periods.

National Bangers (Vintage Tin Night)

Some great effort by a host of drivers resulted in a number of old and unusual rwd cars gracing the track.  Amongst the Oldest/Rarest category winners, 303 Nic Saintey had an A50, 99 David Spooner was in an Austin A40 Somerset, 775 Dave High made his first appearance of the season in a dated hearse, and 756 Chris Holmes marked his track debut in an HC Viva.  55 James Ogborn won the opening heat, in his Capri, whilst 369 Gary Holmes was in devastating form in his 'Russian Rocket' Lada Estate.  Heat two brough a win for 383 Andre McLellan (Capri), and Ogborn won again the final, from 452 Anthony Sleeman (Mk 3 Cortina) and McLellan.  Remarkably, having taken some extreme punishment during the evening, 191 Ashley Kemble (Mk 5 Cortina) won the end of night DD.

Although 27 Andy Thomas was in fine form in the non-contact class, and he swept to a brace of victories (heat and GN), it was 545 Nick Lane who took top honours in the feature race.  Lane sped to victory, to win ahead of 92 Adam Daniels and Thomas.  Local star grader 550 Matt Phillips unveiled a smart brand new car.
