Day one of the June Jamboree was packed to the rafters with races, 30 in all, for the first iFactor Fast & Furious event at Smeatharpe.  Heavy rain finally gave way to better weather, and by the final batch of races, there was a dry track for the drivers to enjoy.

Modstox

Not for the first time, the Modstox produced plenty of fine Stock Car action.  Heat one was halted when 4 Kirsty Conopo was sideways on in turn two and 330 Charlotte Dyche ran into her, necessitating yellow flags.  455 Ryan Grindey led off the restart, but he was relegated by 111 Dan Billington who was enjoying the damp circuit.  10 Marcus Worth cut into Billington’s lead and looked to tap him wide on the last lap.  However, Billington held on, and as Worth struggled to keep the car pointing towards the line, it was Billington who just got to the line first.  In heat two 228 Alan Sturgess swiftly hunted down Grindey to take command, and he won convincingly from 192 Max Harding and 47 James Faultless who charged up the order late on.  As the final developed, Grindey enjoyed a strong advantage at the front.  By the midway point, he still led, from Billington and Sturgess.  As the laps ticked by, 6 Adam Perkins was in contention as the leading star grader, but having closed on Sturgess, his car cut out just as he mounted a challenge.  With five to run, Grindey still led, but Faultless was ready to pounce.  He swept by to take the lead and pulled out a big gap at the front to score an emphatic win.  Worth climbed to second with Sturgess completing the top three.

Ladies Bangers

A mix of local racers and some long distance travellers made for some interesting racing from the Ladies Bangers, with plenty of vital points on offer in the chase for World Championship places.  The opening heat brought a win for 881 Caitlin Emery, and 153 Rhiannon Tavender exacted a terrific last bend challenge in heat two to steal the win from 721 Carley Gabriel.  In the final, 268 Kerry Birch built a good lead from the front of the grid, and stay clear of those in pursuit to win from Tavender, Emery, Gabriel, 717 Donna Cottrell and 133 Faye Madgwick.

Old Skool Superstox

Some truly stunning machines were on display in the Old Skool Superstox class, as they served up some close racing, lightly sprinkled with an air of exhibition and display.  For the record, 177 Merv Smart, 443 Steve Monk and 298 Chris Butler scored wins, but essentially, the thrill was to view the marvellous cars speed around the circuit, chopping and changing places in a throwback to yesteryear.
