Day two of the summer speedweekend at Smeatharpe featured the BriSCA F2 Stock Cars Colin Higman Tribute Trophy. It was English Championship day for the ORCi Stock Rods, the Saloon Stock Cars were racing for their Paw Lean Jeffery Trophy with the 2 Litre National Bangers completing the line up.

43 of the 49 drivers who had competed on the previous evening returned to the track, with 458 Layton Mush and 771 Alan Morrison adding to the entry to bring the final entry to 45. A torrential rain shower at the end of pre-meeting practice made the track conditions treacherous for heat one, which was led from the third lap onwards by wet weather specialist 194 Luke Johnson. 980 Charlie Lobb shadowed Johnson throughout and began to close the gap in the closing stages but had to settle for second while third place went to 542 Steven Gilbert. Heat two saw the yellow flags appear on the third lap for 878 Angelo Carey who was stuck in the fence at the end of the back straight. Morrison led the restart but was soon overhauled by former English Open Champion 418 Ben Borthwick, who went on to record a straightforward win ahead of 525 Charlie Knight and 468 Sam Weston. By the time the third heat was gridding, the track was very much in a transitional phase between wet and dry. 464 Matt Linfield was first to show from the yellow grade, but 895 Ben Goddard was on his tail soon enough having started from pole blue. Goddard eventually made his way past but found himself being chased down by 184 Aaron Vaight. 676 Neil Hooper, who had been involved in a tangle early on, provided a bit of an obstacle for Goddard, which allowed Vaight to home in on the 895 car and on the final lap of the race, Goddard was pushed wide on the pit bend and Vaight went through to win. Goddard and Linfield completed the top three. The consolation race included pretty much every non-qualifier, half of whom started from the white grade. 605 Richie Andrews had just hit the front when the yellow flags were called for 95 Joe Willcock, who found himself stranded across the track on the pit bend. The race had just got back underway when 235 Alfie Brimble was sent fencewards by 259 Daz Purdy, instantly bringing the race back under caution. British Champion 667 Tommy Farrell took the lead as the race restarted, but a push by 127 Matt Stoneman on Andrews put Farrell into a spin as the race entered its second half, and shortly afterwards the yellow flags appeared to assist Andrews from his car. Stoneman reeled off the remaining laps when the race restarted to win, while 581 Daniel Fallows and 207 Alfie Flecken were awarded second and third after Farrell and 24 Jon Palmer had been penalised for jumping places on restarts. The 32-car Colin Higman Tribute Final was halted early on with Farrell, Flecken, Goddard and 8 Jimi Marshall stuck in the fence on the Honiton bend. 53 Phil Mann led the restart and created a gap at the front of the field but spun out of the race when he tangled with a backmarker on the back straight. 128 Jake Ralfs also spun on the back straight, coming to rest facing the fence on the entry to turn three, which necessitated another yellow flag stoppage.  By now, Weston had hit the front and his restart was good, helped no end by Palmer, Vaight and Stoneman battling between themselves for second place with the positions swapping lap after lap in an extraordinarily entertaining bout of Stock Car racing.  All the while though, that was allowing Weston to build an unassailable lead. 27 Kieren Bradford and 186 Kasey Jones tangled with a couple of laps to go, with Jones' car stopping on the middle of the pit bend as the race was completed. Weston reeled off a fine win to grab the £778 first prize, sealing a return to the star grade amidst plumes of tyre smoke following celebratory donuts. Vaight led home Stoneman and Palmer in the battle for second, but Stoneman was relegated to fifth after the race for passing a car on one of the restarts before the green flags appeared. 509 Jordan Butcher was the initial leader of the Grand National as fellow white graders Morrison, 663 Bryan Lindsay and 770 Bert Farrell tangled towards the fence on the pit bend – soon to be joined by Goddard and 578 Mark Gibbs. 206 Matt Brewer took over at the front while further back, another superb battle was taking place between Fallows, Bradford, Stoneman, Palmer and Vaight over the minor places in the top ten – eventually joined by Weston who had started the race from the lap handicap. Brewer was caught by 315 Charlie Fisher as the lap boards appeared, but he was unable to make a decisive move on the 206 car before Farrell had joined the battle. As Fisher had just hit the front, Brewer made his move to regain the lead, which allowed Farrell up the inside to pass them both. Farrell went on to win, with Fisher beating Brewer to second place. In the battle between the star graders, Palmer came out on top – yet for all that effort, the reward was a lowly tenth place.

A dozen cars returned for day two of the summer speedweekend, with 277 Jack Grandon eyeing his third hat-trick of the month having swept the board the previous evening and taking three wins the previous Saturday at Skegness. Heat one featured a back straight tangle between 475 Leah Sealy and 677 Warren Darby in the early stages, as 162 Bradley Fox led until just before halfway when Grandon took over. Grandon was well clear when the chequered flag fell ahead of multi-champion 720 Archie Brown and 577 Harry Darby. The second heat featured what was to be the only yellow flag of the weekend for the formula when, Grandon was soon into the lead when the race got back underway, and despite the opportunity to close the gap with the yellow flag, the other drivers were still unable to mount any sort of challenge. Grandon took win number five of the weekend then, with Brown the runner-up and Warren Darby third. The hat-trick of hat-tricks for Grandon was completed in the Paw Lean Jeffery Trophy Final, as he made his way past Fox in the early stages and reeled off the remaining laps to win. Brown and 902 Brad Compton-Sage completed the podium spots, while a melee in the run up to the line saw Fox grab third place from under the noses of 561 Aaron Totham and Warren Darby. Grandon celebrated his unbeaten weekend with some donuts on the home straight at the end of the race, before receiving the unusual hot air balloon accolade.

The English Championship for the non-contact class yielded a stunning grid of thirty-six cars. A two thirds format was deployed, with each group racing in a reverse grid style. Points leader 522 Chris Mikulla found himself drawn on the front row for heat one, which allowed him to get straight into the lead and take a commanding win. A slow moving 286 Martin Walker Jnr was found on the home straight by 617 Christina Sillifant, which sent both drivers into retirement from the race. 415 Sean Gillett appeared in second place in the early stages and despite a late challenge from the mid-pack-starting 728 Kris Woods, held on to the position when the chequered flag fell. Heat two was stopped and completely restarted when 154 Joe Odhams rolled over on the entry to the home straight. 275 Jeremy Hatch led defending champion 914 Callum Faulconbridge on the restart, but the latter was able to find a gap through as the race reached halfway. From there, Callum Faulconbridge established a lead to take the win, with Jeremy Hatch fending off pressure throughout the race to take second ahead of 946 Dave Taylor. In the battle for sixth spot, Gillett found himself spun around on the entry to the home straight, forcing him to slam the car into reverse to pick up tenth spot. 79 Brian Edmond was an early spinner in the third heat, while Sillifant's afternoon got worse when she was sent into a half-spin and collected in the front wheel by 777 Nathan Congdon. The unlucky Sillifant was then spun out in a clash with 231 Simon Bassett when she rejoined, concluding her race. Meanwhile, on the back straight 779 Ross Sweetland was spun by 320 Matt Hatch, which earned the latter a black cross. At the front 476 Vic Wadling had been caught by Points Champion 944 Callum Hosie with the latter making his way into the lead. Hosie went on to win while the battle for second was thrown into chaos on the last lap as the drivers tried to avoid a very slow-moving Callum Faulconbridge, who had already been collected by 51 Aiden Vincent. Wadling held second but tangled with 204 Georgie Polley as the pack crossed the line, bumping into the stricken Callum Faulconbridge car in the process. 314 Jason Barraclough completed the top three. The English Championship grid featured Woods and Hosie on the front row, with 911 Harrison Bryant and 835 Matt Westaway on the row behind. Woods got the better of the starts and led Hosie into turn one, but after a couple of laps a stoppage was required for 254 Kurt Selway whose car had expired in the middle of the home straight. Woods again got a good break when the race was restarted, but when 149 Dan Curtis spun on the exit of the pit bend scattering the pack, Edmond, Barraclough and crucially Woods were caught out, all receiving significant damage and being forced into retirement. Hosie inherited the lead and drove into the distance when the race restarted, as the battle for second was eventually taken by Bryant while Westaway completed the top three. Callum Faulconbridge's reign as English Champion ended in DNF as his car ran into problems in the closing stages, but he was on hand as the first to sportingly congratulate Hosie when the race had concluded.

2 Litre National Bangers

The entry of 2 Litre National Bangers ended in the high teens and included welcome visitors 210 Kieran Humphreys and 917 Andrew Tew from Wales. There were smart car awards for 166 Luke Gillbard and 720 Kenny Gabriel Jnr who both had Mondeos, while 315 Dan Osborne was also awarded one for a smart Galaxy. The first heat was stopped for 18 Corey Karkeek who had been pinballed about on the exit of the Honiton bend, while on the restart Osborne was ran around the fence by 621 Scott Kendall and 412 Hayden Galley's afternoon was brought to an early end having been jacked up by 562 Jayden James. 252 Steve Bugler had led the early laps but was overtaken by 362 Johnny James, who went on to take the win. 286 Sophie Fasey was the runner-up ahead of Bugler in third. 271 Jordan Coleman, who had been forced to miss the first race with mechanical issues, was the first into the fence courtesy of Jayden James at the beginning of heat two. Further action was supplied by Karkeek who ran in both Tew and Humphreys on the Honiton bend, and while Tew was able to recover to shorten the Mondeo of Gillbard, he was hit in turn by 40 Ben Reeder. At the front, the battle for the lead swapped hands between Sophie Fasey, Bugler, 662 Jared Roe and 200 Jai Simmons. Sophie Fasey was the one who was able to make the break, crossing the line ahead of her brother 186 Lewis Fasey and Bugler. The Final began with a huge follow-in on Tew from Coleman, which brought out the red flags. While the red flags were flying, Jayden James took the opportunity to blitz Coleman and found himself on the naughty step for the rest of the afternoon. Simmons was spun by 154 Joe Odhams when the race got back underway, before being collected by Sophie Fasey and Reeder, with the reds once again coming out to allow Sophie Fasey to exit her car after injuring her wrist. Osborne set about Humphreys on the restart although made a big impact with the fence himself, but both drivers gave the thumbs up to allow the race to continue. Bugler, who had spent much of the afternoon at the front until that point, found himself shuffled wide in the closing laps by Lewis Fasey, who took his first win of the afternoon. Bugler was second again and Roe third. Roe, Osborne, Coleman and Gillbard contested the Destruction Derby, with Gillbard using the car raced by 6 Troy Jones during the meeting. The red flags were shown after Roe was caught by an untidy head-on attack from Osborne on the back straight. Osborne ruled himself out of the running at that point as well. That left Gillbard and Coleman, and after a heavy shot from Coleman on Gillbard, Coleman was awarded the win.
