United Downs Raceway - Sunday 3rd May 2009

The annual Mayday Sunday fixture at the United Downs Raceway, St Day produced plenty of comical moments from the season's first appearance by Reliant Robins, whilst the BriSCA F2s were in scintillating form.

Reliant Robins

Half of the entry of eight Robin Reliants rolled over at various points during the afternoon, as the Bank Holiday crowd cheered them on their wobbly way.
After 87 Barry Richards had won the opening race, his fellow Weston Super Mare based driver, 78 Mark Bowskill proceeded to claim the day's other two victories, but he was made to work hard for his success by the father and son pair of 707 Jeremy Moss and 909 Daniel Moss - each of whom fell on to their side at different times during the day's action.
142 James Herman and 141 Toby Tiddy also featured during the day's trio of races, whilst there was a track debut for teenager 24 John Brereton and 46 John Coombes also made the long trek west.

BriSCA F2 Stock Cars

105 Ross Rowe moved to the top of the St Day Track Championship table for Formula Two Stock Cars, on account of a heat win and a third place finish in the feature final.  However, it was newly crowned British Champion 886 Chris Bradbury who top scored for the day, as he won twice and placed second in the main event.
935 Nathan Maidment took top honours in the feature final - and he celebrated wildly after the event, with some burn-out donuts on the start-finish line.  Glamour model Brandy, oversaw the trophy ceremony, by making the presentations to Maidment, Bradbury and Rowe.
Youngster 31 Simon Bassett led a significant period of the end of meeting Grand National race, but it was Bradbury at the front when the chequered fell.

Saloon Stock Cars

The heavyweight, hard-hitting Saloon Stock Cars made  their second appearance at St Day in 2009, and contested a trio of qualifying heats of the Teng Tools Challenge.
Although 176 Murray Jones won heats one and three, he was denied victory on the last bend of heat two, when 30 Barry Hollett spun him around on the last bend.  That win helped Hollett top score for the day.

Ministox

955 Lewis Holden won the opening race for the youngsters in the Ministox - to secure his first ever victory.
However, even though Holden crossed the line first in heat two, his car failed post-race scrutineering, and that promoted 991 Ryan Hoskin into first place.  Second on each occasion was 917 Andrew Neville.
The final brought Hoskin a second victory, ahead of 971 Jason Cox, with Holden completing the top three.
